This past week I attended an event at Twentieth here in Los Angeles. It was for the release of the six meter Surface Table by Established & Sons, a UK based furniture company. I hadn’t been to the showroom in quite some time and so it was fun to have a look around - so many interesting and inspiring pieces! (We got a little exclusive back room tour too, shhhh don’t tell!)
A teak console stained in smoky black by designer Videre Licet.
Large pendants hang over this funky sofa in the window display at Twentieth.
A large brass screen floats across the showroom floor.
This sparkly chandelier is stunning in person.
A cool chair flanked by pedestal tables.
By the same designer of the console above, Smoked Ramiform is sculpted from a massive piece of teak.
Stunning hanging chandeliers.
Well, I learned the top of these tables are made from the skin of manta rays.
Another sculptural piece from the same designer as the console and chair, again made from teak and stained black. A great conversational centerpiece.
The other evening I was out walking in my neighborhood while on the way to a design event, on nearby Beverly Boulevard. Along the way I stopped to photograph some of the amazing beautiful old buildings in the La Brea and Beverly Boulevard neighborhood of Los Angeles. This particular street is lined with an eclectic mix of quitenessetial old LA style. Here’s a little photographic tour...
Lush landscape covers the facade of a building presumably from the 1940’s era.
A building I assume was built around the 1930’s or 40’s.
The details of this building feels so European.
An early Spanish style building.
Another Spanish style with intricate tile detail.
Another building I believe from the 1940’s.
Another Spanish style.
A grouping of Normandy style buildings.
Streamline Moderne right on the same street!

Roche Bobois has launched a new furnishings collection with designer Marcel Wanders. To celebrate, Roche Bobois and Architectural Digest hosted an event at the magical Houdini Estate in Hollywood’s infamous Laurel Canyon. It was an amazing party filled with creativity transporting us through three countries and their cities: Istanbul, Paris, and London for the “Globe Trotter” theme.
We began in “Istanbul” where there was a hookah lounge set up on the entry level.
Which also included a spread of Turkish deserts, nuts and spices along with Turkish coffee.
The lush grounds of the Houdini Estate took us to the next level via steep steps and a bridge.
The background on the second level was “Paris” with park benches and bistro chairs and tables, music and a mime.
A stage was set up showcasing the new Globe Trotter furnishings collection by Marcel Wanders
A map of the estate and themed areas which also included activities, such as an area where you could make your own perfume.
On the top level was “London” which included a fun Polaroid photo booth.
It was a fun night with design friends (l-r): Edith Ponciano, Giuseppe Colucci, Kam Kamran, and Allan Dallatorre.
And with the designer himself - Marcel Wanders! (Whom I first had the pleasure of meeting back in 2012 on Blog Tour London.)
