When it comes to selling a home, there is a lot of preparation. Homebuyers are looking for more space, creativity, uniqueness, and storage solutions. While many things need to be put into consideration during the process of selling your home, home staging is one of the best ways to highlight your house and display how unique it is. This effective method will help you in setting the stage for success in selling your home. Image Credit
Freshen up your bathroom There is plenty of information for home sellers online such as from Williampitt.com, this offers great advice on how to make your home more attractive to buyers. A bathroom often gets neglected when it's time to sell a home. You’ll want to remove all the clutter such as shampoo bottles, soaps, and other hygienic products that are on display. If you look at look books or visit websites highlighting interior design, you’ll notice that rooms will have little personal products. This is how you’ll want your home. Be sure to hide your products or they can be seen such as placing them all in drawers. Afterward, give your bathroom a good scrubbing and maybe give the interior an update with a new shower rug or towels. Change up your entryway The entryway is the first impression that a homebuyer will make of the interior of your home. You’ll have to make this count. You have so many options on how you can change the entryway. Some ideas would be repainting the walls, creating a seamless transition to the other spaces, and adding new flooring. You’ll also want to keep the space well balanced by adding certain pieces of furniture such as a console, mirror, and a plant. This appearance is not only trendy, but it’s also excellent for leaving this small space feeling fresh. Make the space gender neutral You’ll want to appeal to everyone, a great way to do with would be to achieve a gender-neutral look. This helps home buyers visualize themselves much more easily in the space and owning the space. This can be small such as changing or removing decorative accents that may appear too feminine or masculine. De-Personalize This may be a bit of work but you’ll want to remove photos of yourself, your personal belongings, and decorative accents that strongly reflect you and the rest of the household. It’s important to allow homebuyers to visualize themselves in your home, owning that home. The best way to achieve that is to remove certain belongings. Having the home come off as too personal is going to make the homebuyer struggle to envision themselves there. Find balance You’ll need to find a balance in your home, while you want your home to look organized and attractive there are other things to keep in mind. Your home can’t be too personal, however, there still needs to be some personalization. If the home looks too clean or lifeless, then it's not going to feel genuine or inviting. Be sure that your home is clean but also make sure it’s obvious that someone lives there. Some small ways to achieve this would be having a vase fill with fresh flowers and a basket full of blankets in the living room.

Of course, you would love your home’s interior to look as beautiful and fancy as those you see in magazines! Many people get carried away with interior designs that appear well-curated to the extent that practicality is considered an afterthought. However, the truth is, there is more to consider than just aesthetics if you are planning your home designing. So, how can you get your home looking as attractive and picturesque as those you find in magazines? Here are some interior design tips for organizing your home and keeping it attractive. Explore storage solutions Storing and labeling your items is a great way of keeping your home organized. First, it is vital to determine what you need and find suitable containers or tools to keep them. Clear boxes are excellent for your odds and ends, while you can use a window bar or personalized curtains to transform your room corners into usable, extra storage. If you are thinking of designing your kitchen, go for those clear bottles and glasses to store your essentials. However, always ensure to label them for easy identification. Various storage and labeling options are available that would effortlessly merge into your interior design’s overall style and feel, making it appealing. Be practical with your closet Who has never dreamt of a fashionable walk-in closet where they can keep their bags and shoes on their rightful thrones? Yet, it is almost impossible to have enough storage in real life, especially if you are quite the hoarder- holding on to items you should probably let go of. It is helpful to group your clothing according to how you intend to use it to organize your closet. If you have the space, consider separating them using baskets or containers. You may likewise consider donating those items you don’t need anymore. You’ll be surprised how set your home would be after organizing just your closet. Clean up nice You can unload and even reload your dishwasher, clean your countertops and appliances in the few minutes you use to swipe your lunch. That period we usually let go waste while waiting-on-something can be used to restore a part of your home. However, if you are constantly dealing with downtimes due to power outages, you may consider getting some standby generators to keep your essential appliances and devices like refrigerators and heating services running. Dedicate 20 minutes for each day You might think a Saturday morning would be enough to get your home together, but you aren’t entirely right. You only need twenty minutes of cleaning each day. Begin with tackling clutter in one room each day. It could be just a shelf or drawer. It wouldn’t seem like a lot of work, but in a week or two, you will be surprised how accomplished it feels after decluttering your entire home. Just as we build clutter so quickly that we barely notice, you can use the same strategy to tidy up and make your home feel new again. Image Credit Image Address Are you looking for ideas about how to decorate your living room in a charming and functional way? Here are some tips that you might need, and they are organized into three categories. #1: Seat and Footrest Furnishings such as a sofa and chairs are necessary for the family room. A modern sofa adds style to your living room while providing comfortable support and seating for you and your guests. A sofa in a neutral color (beige, ivory, gray, etc) with added throw pillows, completes the look. Throw pillows are good accents and changing out throw pillow covers refreshes the room with color and style. To increase the comfort level, an elegant ottoman is a good option. The cream storage ottoman with wood legs has the lift off lid, which allows you to store items inside and place your feet on top of it. If you just want a footrest, a natural look pouf is the suitable item. Natural look products are suitable for many interior designs. #2: Organizing Products It is convenient to have furniture that helps you store and organize items. A TV stand with drawers works well for TV placement and stores the remote control and CDs safely, preventing dust and loss. The console sofa table is also practical for storing and organizing. You can put books, houseplant pots, pictures, snacks, and your other favorite items on it. Place this table next to the sofa, then you will be able to keep your snacks within reach when watching TV. If you would like to save more space, a multiple layers etagere is helpful for its vertical structure. #3: Accessories Accessories help to embellish an interior space. Having some houseplants in your rooms are the perfect additions to merge a natural feeling with your space. Nevertheless, there might be some reasons impeding us from having natural plants in the room, such as having no time to water the plants because of work, overwatering, attracting bugs, etc. However, it does not mean you should not spruce up your living room with greens. Artificial plants and the faux tree are good solutions, such as artificial succulents in ceramic with a bamboo tray exhibits a natural look in your room. Depending on your needs, some of the faux trees or plants can be put in exterior spaces, too.
Obviously, a wall is a large area that could use wall decor. A hand-painted canvas art is an aesthetically pleasing item for the wall. Other items like photos, wallpapers, and wall hanging are beautiful decorations for the room, too. Written by Yaxin (Cindy) Guan for JSID Last week, I was invited to attend a house tour at the iconic 1948 residence of Greta Magnussun-Grossman on behalf of interior designer and furniture designer, Lauren Rottet of Rottet Studio. The iconic mid-century Beverly Hills residence was built in 1948. Thoughtful renovations have seamlessly updated the house for today's modern lifestyle, while staying true to its architectural spirit and restrained scale. The combination of the old and the new, the signature building designed by Grossman and the presentation of some of the stylish furniture pieces from Lauren, made the entire evening an inspirational experience. Grossman was one of the leading figures and few female designers that played an integral role in Los Angeles' modern movement. She was the first female furniture designer who won the Swedish Society of Industrial Design’s Furniture Design award [1]. Her lamp designs for Barker Brothers were among the first lamps applied bullet shaped, directional shades and flexible linkages [2]. These elements are still used in current modern style lamp design. She was also an excellent interior designer and architect, famous for her fourteen projects in Los Angeles. Many of the houses in the projects were built on difficult hillsides that needed stilts and had the size under 1500 feets. Furthermore, she taught courses at UCLA and at the Art Center in Pasadena [3]. Grossman has had an impact in architectural history and it so it was quite fortunate to be able to be hosted by Lauren for a personal home tour! Sitting Nook (the former study of Greta Magnusson-Grossman) One of my favorite rooms when entering the home, is the cozy sitting nook above. Currently, it features the bent metal cocktail table and metal & wood float chair from the Rottet Collection. Above is a landing with impressive views toward Century City. On display is Lauren’s dichroic table made from glass and stainless steel has a geometrical and minimal design. This glass table can reflect light and demonstrate different colors, which makes it a perfect piece for this location. The bedroom also has impressive views seen directly from bed and an elegant and refined rattan settee. The room exhibits the match of mid-century modern style and today’s modern style.
Thank you to Lauren for hosting us for this great tour and evening! Written by Yaxin (Cindy) Guan for JSID Photo by Max Vakhtbovych from Pexels https://www.pexels.com/photo/bathroom-with-wooden-furniture-and-clean-white-bathtub-6908370/ Renovating your bathroom is one of the best ways to add value to your property and, in most cases, you will be able to recoup between 56% and 64% of renovation costs when selling your property. However, a bathroom renovation can also be one of the most expensive home improvement projects you will face - on average, bathroom renovations cost almost $11,000! Therefore, before you dive headfirst into the project ahead, it is important to understand what aspects it is smart to invest in. Here are a few tips to keep in mind! Plan Ahead A bathroom renovation is not a spur-of-the-moment project - it requires a lot of planning, designing, and compromising. Additionally, bathroom renovations can come with significant disruptions to your daily life, so it is vital to understand how long the project will take and avoid delays. Ideally, before allowing the construction team to work on the bathroom, you should have decided on the design, materials, tools, and timelines to follow. Use Premium Materials Renovating a bathroom can be a costly project, but once it is completed, it should not need retouches for many years. However, in order to create a long-lasting, durable bathroom, you should invest in the right materials and design. For example, the right flooring and tiles will not cause water infiltration and have you deal with structural water damages. Similarly, high-quality basins, toilets, fixtures, and plumbing systems can last for decades. Decorate With Plants Decorating with plants is an excellent way to keep your bathroom design minimalist and easily adaptable to your changing preferences and design trends. Additionally, adding plants to your bathroom can have many benefits, from improving air quality to looking after your mental wellbeing and creating a more energizing environment. Don’t forget to learn about shower plants! Invest in a Timeless Design You might be renovating the bathroom to create a much more comfortable space for your whole family. However, a bathroom renovation is also essential to maintain the value of the home high - and make it more appealing in an always more competitive property market! But an outdated or vintage bathroom might not be so appealing for all buyers, even if you won’t be thinking about selling your home soon. So, when choosing a design for your new bathroom, your personal preferences are not the only factor to consider! Ideally, you should opt for a timeless and versatile design that will remain attractive to buyers for years to come. Make It Efficient One of the reasons why a newly renovated bathroom is so attractive for home buyers is the systems’ increased efficiency. In newer bathrooms, designers use features to save water, reduce electricity expenses, and make the whole environment more sustainable. While these upgrades can seem costly at first, they can help homeowners save hundreds of dollars each year - and create a more eco-friendly home. When renovating your bathroom, it is recommendable to keep this aspect in mind and ensure that you are following all the principles of a sustainable bathroom. Enhance Natural Light and Airflow
Ventilation and natural light are essential in every room of the house, but they are particularly necessary for smaller and more humid rooms such as your bathroom. Without airflow, the heat, vapor, and humidity can infiltrate through the tiles and flooring, thus causing water damages and structural problems. Another common problem affecting bathrooms without airflow and lighting is the proliferation of mold and bacteria, which can make the whole room unhealthy for your family. Make sure to use vents, open windows, light curtains, mirrors, and fans to create an open and airy atmosphere in your bathroom. Design Smart Storage Solutions Bathrooms can become messy in no time, especially if they are shared by the whole family. Make sure to create smart storage solutions so that everything has a place to go back to. These solutions might include closed cabinets, hidden cabinets (such as behind mirrors, for example), drawers, or seats. If you need additional storage space, invest in high-quality, natural containers, such as wicker baskets and metal pots. Find Professional Help When renovating, there are some tasks that you might be doing by yourself, such as painting the walls or dusting. However, in most cases, you will need the guidance and expertise of a professional team to complete the core tasks of a bathroom renovation. For example, a master bathroom redesign project will require the help of a professional designer. Additionally, if you are looking to move your toilet, redesign the plumbing system, or need to add an extra faucet, you should always start your project by searching for the “best plumber near me“. 3 Interior Design Tips You Should Know Interior design thrives on primary principles and best practices. Therefore, wherever you desire to incorporate that into your home, it is necessary to know what they are. Moreover, the global market for interior design is pegged at $121 million, lending credence to why it’s a serious business. Coming back to the main issue at hand, how do these tips, principles, and best practices create a form in your home? For more details, please keep reading.
Image Credit Whether you’re designing the bedroom, living room, or kitchen, your design must gravitate towards the room’s purpose. With this tip in mind, every design you create should highlight features and functions. The worst mistake you can commit is having your interior design impede purpose. To get it right from the start, you must first have a complete understanding of what the room you’re designing is for or would be used for. This way, you can maximize the overall space and focus on details to achieve the desired effect. Interior design is more than color combinations and textures. Instead, it has more to do with structure and function without losing sight of the pleasing aesthetics. That’s why during the construction stage, you have the opportunity to discuss with your home builders how to balance the two.
Unlike the designing for purpose principle, which sees every room individually, harmony and unity operate differently. The twin principle (harmony and unity) requires that you see the entire house as one space. Doing this properly requires that you take areas connecting to the various rooms into perspective. It’s how you can link one space to the next.

Balance is very vital in interior design. However, three concepts define balance in this area of design. They are; symmetrical, asymmetrical, and radial. Knowing how to use each type is key to achieving a design that looks good and has equilibrium. Fortunately, balance is relatively easy to achieve. Indeed, it is the easiest of the design principles currently in use in the 21st century. Furthermore, attaining a balanced look creates a sense of ease and stability. One vital tip to take note of when creating balance is the floor plan layout. According to several interior designers, the balance principle adds visual calmness to a room. Other interior design principles you should know are emphasis, contrast, details, and rhythm. You cannot design a room without having any of these in mind. In one way or the other, all these principles come together to achieve the ultimate design goal. This includes making optimum use of an aesthetically pleasing space without losing sight of efficiency and function. |
