Mountain spaces can easily lean too rustic or too modern. The goal here was balance.
Natural oak cabinetry set the foundation.
Then we layered texture:
• Tumbled stone for depth
• Subtle quartz for light
• Organic tile to soften edges
When materials speak the same language, the whole home feels custom.

It’s about how it works.
I always ask:
• Is the layout functional and intuitive?
• Do we have enough prep space?
• Is storage designed with intention?
• Are the materials timeless?
• Is the lighting layered and warm?
It’s the work triangle.
The cabinet elevations.
The way the island anchors the room.
The balance of warm wood and soft color.

Basements can easily feel like an afterthought — purely functional, a little dark, a little forgotten.
But this one? We treated it like any other room in the house.
We added warm oak cabinetry to ground the space and make it feel built-in and intentional. A dark stone countertop gives contrast. The square tile backsplash adds subtle texture without feeling busy. Then we layered in soft details — a basket pendant, matte black sconces, woven storage — to keep it warm and approachable.
It was a space that feels custom.
Like someone actually designed it.

A luxury bathroom isn’t expensive because it’s big.
It’s expensive because every decision is intentional.
Here’s some designer tips:
Step 1: Anchor with one dominant finish
Pick your tone. Warm. Cool. Neutral. Repeat it everywhere.
Step 2: Fix the mirror and lighting
These two elements control 80% of how the bathroom feels.
Symmetry instantly makes a space feel high-end.
Step 3: Simplify materials
Too many tile styles = chaos.
Fewer, better choices = calm.
Step 4: Upgrade one hero feature
Freestanding tub. Statement vanity. Elevated lighting.
One strong focal point elevates the entire room.
Step 5: Remove visual friction
Hide clutter. Match hardware. Create visual flow.

The issue is almost never the pieces.
It’s the layout.
Here’s the framework I use when designing any living room:
1. Establish the focal point
Everything orients around one anchor. Fireplace. TV. Window. Art.
2. Anchor the space with a properly sized rug
The rug defines the room. Without it, everything floats visually.
3. Pull furniture away from walls
Floating furniture creates intimacy, flow, and intention.
4. Get the spacing right
Coffee table: 16–19 inches from the sofa
This one detail alone changes how the room functions.
5. Layer lighting
Table lamps and floor lamps create warmth. Overhead lighting alone flattens the room.
Small adjustments can completely transform how your space looks and feels.
One expert plan can change everything.

This bathroom renovation was inspired by the warmth, simplicity, and enduring appeal of mid-century modern design, reimagined through a fresh and functional lens. The goal was to create a space that feels timeless yet current—where clean lines, thoughtful contrast, and subtle pattern come together effortlessly.
At the heart of the design is a warm wood vanity with tapered legs, a signature nod to mid-century furniture silhouettes. Its rich tone instantly grounds the space and brings a sense of craftsmanship and authenticity, while the integrated storage keeps the room feeling streamlined and uncluttered. Paired with a crisp white countertop and a sleek rectangular sink, the vanity becomes both a functional anchor and a visual focal point.
Color and tile selections play a major role in reinforcing the mid-century spirit. The vertically stacked green wall tile introduces depth, movement, and a slightly retro personality, while its glossy finish reflects light and adds dimension. This vertical orientation subtly elongates the walls, making the shower feel taller and more open. Complementing this, the graphic patterned floor tile references classic mid-century geometry, adding visual interest without overpowering the room.
Matte black fixtures and hardware were selected to bring a contemporary edge to the warmer elements. Their simple, unfussy profiles align with mid-century principles of form following function, while providing crisp contrast against the wood tones and soft neutrals. From the faucet to the shower fittings and accessories, consistency in finish helps the space feel cohesive and intentional.
Lighting and mirrors were approached with the same philosophy of simplicity and balance. Clean-lined sconces and a softly rounded rectangular mirror echo the era’s preference for approachable geometry and restrained elegance. These elements frame the vanity area while enhancing both task lighting and overall ambiance.
The result is a bathroom that feels inviting, character-rich, and highly livable—rooted in mid-century modern inspiration, yet tailored for today’s lifestyle. It’s a space where warmth meets clarity, and where every detail supports a calm, beautifully functional daily routine.
- Use a furniture-style vanity to introduce warmth and mid-century character.
- Install tile vertically to add height and subtle visual movement.
- Pair one bold tile with one quieter pattern to maintain balance.
- Choose simple, consistent finishes to keep the design cohesive.
- Let contrast (wood + black + white) do the heavy lifting instead of excess decor.
