Warm Up Your Home For Winter With These Tips

10/7/2021

The nights are quickly cooling down and that means that it’s time to think about how you can make that house of yours warmer. You want to be comfortable in the evening in the winter and as the weather gets colder, you have to work now to make sure that it stays warm for longer. You want to be able to come in from the cold and feel warm, not feel just as cold as you did outside. The change of the season is exciting and if you want to make sure that you are enjoying the comfort of your home, you have to work on the house first to make it warmer.

In this article, we’re going to explore everything that you can do to make your living space as warm as possible. You can talk to your home builder about extra closed cell spray foam when they are building the house, but what you do beyond that is just as important. So, how can you warm up your home this winter? Let’s take a look!

  1. Add some rugs to the space and make sure that you have layers going on. You don't have to say no to rugs if you have carpet, either. The more layers you have on your flooring, the better. Layers help to trap the heat and you then don't have to walk bare feet over cold floors in the morning or the evening. The more you have on the floors, the more heat you trap in the room.
  2. Update all of your throws. When was the last time you updated your throws and your cushions in your living space? The right answer should be seasonally, with smaller cushions and lighter blankets in the summer and a switch to the heavier ones in the winter. Remember what we said about layers? Well, these are still needed on the sofas and chairs in your living space, not just the carpet.
  3. Add extra layers in the bedroom. You don't have to sleep in pajamas if it’s not your thing, but if you want to add warmth to the bedroom, upgrade your bedding. Extra quilts, thicker duvets and covers and more pillows will help you to keep the heat in when you are sleeping. This is your nest, your space to settle down and rest for the night, so make sure that you have it as warm as possible.
  4. Add warm colors to the walls. A transformation may not be in your thinking right now, but a simple lick of paint can make all the difference to the space in which you live if you want it to be warm. Swapping the colors for softer, moodier ones will help you to warm the room and make it less cool to look at!
Remember the lighting. Lighting is important to any space if you want to give it an atmosphere and in this case, we’re trying to warm it up. Think about softer bulbs in bedrooms and living spaces, and you could even put a heat bulb in the bathroom so that you can dry off easily under the lamp!
